Best Cheese in the World (2018)!
We are happy to announce the winner of the World Cheese Awards 2018/19 celebrated Norway.
Fanaost, an aged gouda made by Norwegian cheesemaker Jørn Hafslund has been named the champion this year. His dairy, Ostegården, is less than 20km from the city of Bergen, this year’s host city. His farmstead production has 12 cows and two employees.
This cheese was selected as the winner by the panel of Supreme Judges from all around the world. There were 3,472 entries to the competition from Africa, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Russia, and the U.S. The top 16 cheeses included artisan cheeses made in Italy, France, Israel and South Africa.
This year, cheeses made in the U.S. did remarkably well in this international competition, with seven companies receiving a Super Gold medal, including Jacobs and Brichford Farmstead Cheese with their Everton Premium Reserve.
Other top award winners were Fromage Blanc and Midnight Moon made by Cypress Grove, Bloomsdale by Baetje Farms, Montchevre Kiss My Ash by Saputo Cheese USA, Cave Aged Marisa by Carr Valley Cheese Co., and Lionza by Fiscalini Cheese Company.
The trophy to Best American cheese was awarded to Harbison made by Cellars at Jasper Hill.
